Belle Havana--Yonkers

I was feeling in the mood for Cuban food and mojitos (outside of our house) so I called Belle Havana to get their dinner hours. Alas, they have closed and are now doing catering. Looks like the economy, and perhaps their location, got the better of them.

Belle Havana is open, but it might be under different ownership. I haven't been there in a while, but when I've driven by in the evening, I've noticed that they seem to be going with a hookah scene. Kind of weird...

Yes, it's been reopened with new owners and a slightly different name--La Bella Havana. We haven't tried it, so I can't comment on the food. A Cuban cigar salon would be understandable, but hookas?

We were there in November, and I would rename the restaurant, La Belle Saint Domingue because it's Dominican food dressed up and named Cuban. The chef/owner is Dominican and doesn't have the slightest idea how to make Cuban food, even the mojo is wrong! And when you can't get mojo and try to pass it off as your own interpretation, it means you don't know what you are doing. And on top of that, it's not cheap! Very unahppy with our meals.

Thanks for the honest review. Havana Central is opening up in the new Ridge Hill center sometime next month. It's a small chain, and by that I mean 2 other places in NYC. We're hoping that will prove to be more authentic.
