Sam's Ferndale Grill, Detroit Area

Completely packed with regulars. Frenetic but good service. Standard coney menu. Had the Gyro and somehow they got extra crispy on the pita (probably extra oil) but man was it good. Standard loaf meat in strips but the tzatziki was fantastic. House made, sour cream based and just the right amount of cukes and onion. I could have eaten a bowl of it. $6 for the gyro sandwich and it was very, very good.

Classic coney, diner but a little touch above. Lot's of people doing takeout at lunch.

Odd that they would use sour cream instead of plain Greek yogurt. Is that a regional variation?

I get the feeling that it's a "financial variation", if you catch my drift. ;) It puzzled me for a moment, too.

Thanks @goat. Where on Woodward is it? I'll look for it.
