Burrito Loco, Mooresville, NC -- Prickly Pear Connection

  • 1

Had lunch today at a new place, Burrito Loco, in Mooresville, NC -- I think it's owned by the same folks who own the Prickly Pear. Located on Hwy 150 near Iredell Rd., in a strip mall; it's a couple of doors down from a tienda, in a location that used to house another Mexican restaurant.

Burrito Loco is a different feel and mood from the Prickly Pear -- the menu features tacos, burritos, and quesadillas -- good street food. Pretty straightforward and not as fancy as PP (and no bar, either) -- but the tacos were good! Nicely seasoned, on good, soft tortillas, with authentic crumbled cheese on the top. Each order has two substantial tacos, along w/chips and salsa for something like $5 or $6. A great bargain.

They've only been open for three weeks, and so the place isn't decorated yet. I took my food to go -- so I can't speak to the quality of the service.

Nothing fancy -- but the place was a pleasant surprise for me. Would love to hear what others think.

  1. If anyone feels the prices at Prickly Pear are good....then you will find the high prices at Burrito Loco good also. We don't. My wife & I ate at Burrito Loco this past Saturday in late afternoon. Subway has more ambiance or decor. You order at a window & food is brought to your table...within a few minutes. However, we had 2 Burrito Loco burritos with chicken at $6 and 2 sodas, bill was over $17 w/tax. What we each got was a burrito served on wax paper on a tin plate. The tortilla was very fresh and good tasting. However, the filling was a majority of red rice, with a sprinkling of lettuce & a very small amount of tiny pieces of chicken. At other restaurants you would normally get sour cream, guacamole, and sauteed onions & peppers inside. We did not realize they were extra..but at an extra $1.25 for all 4? Now we would have had a $7.25 burrito. And there is nothing else with the burrito, unless you order a side of beans, etc. That brings the total to near $9, NOT a good price for a "take out" type restaurant. Yes, they gave us a small basket of un-warmed, run of the mill, average yellow corn tortilla chips w/2 plastic suffle cups about 1/3 full with average salsa. Sauza's on Williamson Road is a much better value, and you get waited on totally. They want to franchise these.....good luck! We left hungry. We won't return.
