Best Economic Foodie Spot in Galleria Area?
We're heading to Houston for one night. Typically, my wife and I like to splurge on these one night trips with a big dinner at a trendy restaurant that has an innovative chef. However, this time we're traveling with friends who are very economical. After briefly looking through some of Houston's trendy restaurants, we've made ourselves hungry for Phillipe's for instance, but we don't think they'd be comfortable spending the money that we would to have the experience we'd like. On top this, because the trip is quick, we want to stay near our hotel in the Galleria area.
So to make this challenging for everyone: what do you recommend as an economical, cool restaurant experience (perhaps with a hip bar or lounge because our friends don't have the same restrictions on spending for alcohol as they do food) in the Galleria area?
Thanks in advance!
In that case, I would choose El Patio. Good tex mex food and inexpensive. I've only been to the one on Wetheimer but it's been there for decades. They have some of my favorite margaritas but beware, they are strong and you don't necessarily realize that when drinking them. Check out their happy hour menu for some really good prices. It's been several years since I've eaten there but the food was really good the last time I went. Maybe someone else here has been more recent than I have. But for that price, you won't have a lot of choices unless you want burgers or pizza maybe. Especially at dinner.
And this would not be a "cool" (as in trendy) experience. It's a typical Mexican restaurant setting. It should be fun though.
Kenny & Ziggy's - New York style deli on Post Oak just N of Westheimer (might be closer to $20/head but no bar)
Taqueria Ruchi's - Excellent Green table sauce on Westheimer at Winrock (full bar and you can probably eat AND have a margarita for $15)
Tan Tan - Great Chinese on Westheimer 1/2 mile west of Voss (no idea about liquor tho')
Don't forget to come back and let us know what you found.
