Date Night Dinner - Seafood and View?

My husband and I will be in San Diego on business next week and are looking for dining recommendations. We are foodies but are equally comfortable in dive bars and fancy restaurants as long as there is good food and atmosphere. Our only chance for a "date night - just us" dinner is Saturday and we're hoping for great seafood and ideally a view to go with it. Any recommendations? I like fresh salads and veggies as well as seafood, my husband likes everything. We're staying at the Town and Country resort but will have a rental car so all locations are possible.

Best dinner and view is probably going to be the Marine Room in La Jolla, it's an old San Diego institution. To be sure, there are some years where it's better than others, but it's literally right on the sand and sitting there watching the sun go down in comfortable surroundings and cocktail in hand can be very relaxing. Here's the link - http://www.marineroom.com/home - if your visit coincides with any of the High Tide meals then it's really your ticket as the waves will be lapping right up against the floor to ceiling windows.

There are those that think The Marine room is an old relic, but every time it seems to be going down for the 3rd time, it recreates itself and comes back. It *is* a little staid, but the cooking is usually pretty interesting and solid. Chef Guillas and his sous chef recently won Cookbook of the Year from IACP. If I was looking for a romantic date night with an ocean view, The Marine Room would be one of my top choices.

I like this recommendation, and understand what you mean by the fact that it's been around for a long time. Relaxing and comfortable are great attributes unless you're looking for hip and chic, but I'd rather have the view than the "scene" so this sounds perfect.

I would recommend the Top of the Market at the south end of Seaport Village in the downtown Harbor area. The view is beautiful especially if you get out there during the twilight hours. The bottom portion of the restaurant is a family style eatery, but upstairs is a swanky, quiet, dining experience full of ambience and sophistication. I have been there many times myself and the entrees are very fresh and have terrific ingredients. The staff is great and the wine is reasonably priced.

This looks like an excellent choice because they have tons of seafood appetizers and salads. We tend to order multiple appetizers to share so that we can enjoy a wide variety of food without being overly stuffed by a large entree. For that reason, I think Top of the Market suits us for food and view. Thanks!

Just off the top of my head...

George's at the Cove in La Jolla has awesome seafood and a great view of La Jolla beaches: http://www.georgesatthecove.com/

But if you want to see a spectacular view, you could go somewhere like Bertand at Mr. A's. Personally, I have tasted better food for the price, but they always get good reviews and you seriously cannot find a better view in San Diego!

Or like a previous posted had suggested, Top of the Market has excellent food. And before or after dinner, you should check out the Top of the Hyatt for a quick cocktail (or virgin cocktail if you don't drink.) They have another awesome view!

Hope that helps! There are a lot of great seafood restaurants in San Diego so good luck narrowing down!
