Dosaduro area of Venice in early August?

  • 4

Where should we eat in the Dosaduro area of Venice in early August? All price ranges...we like great food with character!

  1. Dorsoduro you mean?
My favorite restaurant of Dorsoduro (Ristorante Riviera) has been sold but I still have some addresses.
For cichetti "Cantine del Vino giĆ  Schiavi" Fondamenta Nani, 992
For a drink (a spritz) anywhere on the Campo Santa Margherita. Personally I like the Margaret Duchamp
For a good lunch Ristorante Ai Gondolieri (366, Ponte dal Formage) near the Guggenheim. One of the few Venetian restaurants to serve only meat!
For dinner on a terrace even if some find the address expensive (it is) and overrated, I like Ristorante Lineadombra (Ponte dell'Umilta) located near Punta Della Dogana and with a splendid view of the Redentore!
But I think my favorite restaurant is in front of Dorsoduro on the island of Giudecca. (5 minutes by vaporetto) Trattoria Altanella (Calle De Le Erbe, 268 - Giudecca) with a very nice terrace in summer

Dorsoduro is a pretty big area, there is a cluster of good not really expensive restaurants right around Campo San Barnaba and on the Calle Lunda san Barnaba - Onigo,4 Feri,Furatola,La Bitta, for example.

Generally, the places around the Campo Santa margherita are more studenty, but sure go for a drink thee, it is a nice piazza to wander and sit in.

There are lots of Dorsoduro restaurants in the Restaurant page - here is a link to some more: the search feature doesnt currently identify them very well - will have to revise these listings to get a proper Dorsoduro search.http://www.chow.com/search?query=&amp...

    2. Dorsoduro is a wonderful sestiere to stroll and enjoy but it is not blessed with many good eating places. Those mentioned above and in the two links to earlier posts are probably the best it has to offered. Ai Gondolieri is probably your best bet for fine dining; in my opinion, better at dinner for the quiet ambience than for lunch; as stated no seafood; La Bitta is a simple osteria for good meat dishes, again no seafood and no lunch serve. For seafood only, La furatola. Simple pizza, etc, Casin di Nobili. Two good bacari are Cantinone del Vino Gia Schiavi and Vini Padovani. Can't think of any other good recommendations. I think all are opened during early August but annual closings changes year to year, therefore, do a check. I would definitely ventured out to the other sestieri for some of the better places to eat in Venice.

      1. I had two very good dinners a couple of weeks ago at Avogoria. When entering Campo San Barnab take a hard left. Its on the left a hundred or so meters after you cross a bridge. Very modern interior and a tiny courtyard.
