Vic's Waffle House, Tewksbury
At a cookout in Billerica heard that this place is a must try, an old school, neighborhood kind of spot. Never heard of it but being a breakfast kind of girl will definitely check it out. As is my habit, checking first with those who would really know! Any thoughts?

excellent place for breakfast, although most likely great lunchs too. Family owned where customer service is important...great diner grub but doesn't look like a diner, great wait staff. Hubby got a beans/frank omlette just because he could and loved it! Family used to own Jade East. It's awesome but if you are an eggs bennie connosour, my fav is still the "owl diner" lowell

My best friend lives in Tewksbury and I have been there many times. They have an extensive menu, the food is good and inexpensive and the waitresses are all terrific.....old school, as you said. They have wonderful fresh squeezed OJ and you can see them dropping the oranges in the machine as you have breakfast. There are waits on the weekend but there is a long covered hall with benches where you can wait and get coffee if you wish. I would highly recommend it.

I've become a weekend semi-regular here with the beau. Superb service with waitresses right out of Central Casting, which I love. Seasonal pumpkin pancakes are on the menu right now, and the beau has been taking full advantage of their availability. I've been waffling between waffles :::grin::: and french toast, with pancakes making special appearances.
I had the Cranberry Nut Banana Bread French Toast last week; not as good as their regular french toast because the cakeyness of the bread doesn't make for good french toast. Today had a half waffle, 1 egg over easy, bacon, well-toasted English muffin and hash browns. Excellent coffee, LOVE the fresh OJ, and the wonderful service from the ladies. Have always sat at the counter; seems to allow for slightly quicker seating that way.

I tried the Sunday of the power outage - wrong thing to do, obviously. We could hardly park and the wait was going to be over 45 minutes. We were only there because the Owl was closed - no power, along with most of Lowell (quite an adventure crossing intersections with no working lights). We ended up going to Pinata - just opened for lunch, plenty of parking, and we were too hungry to drive around much more. But a chile relleno combo, as good as Oscar's is, isn't going to really satisfy when you're craving chipped beef. And Oscar hasn't had any tamales since the lady that made them left - I wouldn't have minded one of those. We got power back 4 days later.
I've actually not been to Vic's since it became Vic's. I am going to have to try again. But I'll miss the chipped beef at Owl!
