Any good eats in DAVIDSON, NC?
We will be in Davidson later this month for a theater production and we'll need to eat dinner beforehand. .There are very few CH threads for Davidson. What's good to eat up there? Are only two qualifiers are casual and tasty.
I did see Tim Groody's Flatiorn Pourhouse and while he's done great things in CLT, the menu at Flatiron looks pretty boring. We have previously gone to La Patisserie in Mooresville and unfortunately that's too far for us to drive for this occasion, but I would like to recommend it to y'all. The have two locations in Mooresville and their pastries and breads are incredible (they make their own Cuban bread). I loved their spinach & feta empanadas and I'm told their crepes are pretty tasty too. Here's a link: http://www.mooresvillebakery.com/
TIA!

I was going to Huntersville years ago and got this recommendation from this Board. It is called Moma/Momma Mia Two ( one m or two). Old historic house in downtowne Huntersville. Very eligant and reservations normally- But we showed up (Son 16 and I ) and they fed us. Very elegant, great food and we snuck out for $34.00 before tip. White table cloth.
Great place.

I live in Davidson, and Restaurant X is the hidden gem you're looking for! Small, and a "special" meal, without being too fancy or froofy. They do an AMAZING job w/seafood --but their other dishes are terrific, too. Perfect for a pre-theatre meal.

Stacey, thanks so much! Restaurant X looks great. I just checked out their menu and it's got all the right players (flounder, pork chops, vegetarian options, etc.).

A CH friend sent me an email and gave me the Davidson lowdown. She had issues logging into her CH account so emailed me instead. Here is was her recs:
She said Campania was really bad, in her humble opinion. She also did not care for Il Bosco. She said her panzanella salad had store-bough croutons. Ew.
She said Flatiron is okay, and Brickhouse is so-so, but basic bar food at both.
She said there is a new burger joint that she had not yet been to, Char Grill. Apparently it is a regional chain and this is their first location in the area. http://www.chargrilldavidson.com/
Also, close by, she suggested eeZ fusion & sushi at Birkdale Village and La Unica, also exit 25 for their sopa de pollo, her favorite. She said to ask for the "green" and "brown" salsas, otherwise they bring you the bland American salsa. Ha!
At exit 28, Cornelius, she suggested a place called Altons for their good cooked-to-order burgers and prime rib French dip sandwiches (fries are kind of sorry). Cornelius also has a great Thai place called Thai Marlai.
It pays to have Chowhound friends. ;-)

The last that I heard, Tim was no longer Chef there. There is a brew pub up there where I once ate that was OK. North Harbor Club seems to do some interesting things plus a great location. Good Luck.

re: lynnlato
Maybe...http://www.campaniacafe.com/ I never ate there. They once were down your way, I think, at the little SS that now has Trader Joes. There is still a restaurant there, but I swear this is where Campania started and I think it is the same owner/chef. Let me know if this info is wrong.

re: Sam at Novas
That's what I thought too Sam but after a little digging (slow work day), I'm not sure. The restaurant that replaced Campania in Piper Glen is called Rudy's and I could have sworn when it opened that the owners changed the name and the decor to make it a more casual restaurant. From what I've read on the site of the Davidson Campania, it looks like the owners moved down from NJ to Davidson and opened it three years ago. No mention of the old location. So it looks like, at least for a short time, there were two restaurants in the same general area with the same name. Seems unlikely but who knows? Regardless, the place in Davidson looks charming.

re: southernitalian
Yea, they are most definitely not the same place/owner. Ciro is who owned Campania in PG. After he closed it he opened a casual pizza place at Ballantyne Village but it has since closed. I'm not sure what he's doing these days.
SI, I'm sure you can appreciate that I don't do red sauce joint food down here. I wait until I go back home (PA) or I make my own.
I did stumble upon a creole place up there, but apparently the owner was arrested on drug charges back in January. Apparently he was growing herb, and not the basil & oregano varieties, upstairs in the restaurant and selling it. Someone tipped off the man and they sent an undercover cop and he sold to them. Oops! j
