Casual, low key (and low volume) place for 20 people to gather in Chelsea

We have a number of friends and family members staying at the Hampton Inn on 24th just west of 6th, and are looking for a place they can gather next Thursday evening over drinks and food. Criteria primarily are: casual, low key, not too noisy, not too expensive, and not too far from the hotel. Obviously tasty food and drinks would be nice, but honestly the other criteria are the more important! (The lounge at Junoon might have been a decent choice, but it violates the "not too expensive" criteria.) Any suggestions?

    1. The back room at Il Bastardo might work for you. The food is fine, not great, but it meets all your other criteria. I've eaten there with a big group four or five times, and been reasonably happy about it.

      1. well, i haven't been there in several years, but assuming the food is still decent La Lunchonette definitely fits all your criteria. hopefully someone who's been there recently can chime in about what's coming out of the kitchen these days.

Has anyone tried the place that opened up about a year ago on the west side of 7th Ave. just south of 23rd in the space that used to be Porter's. Like Porter's, it always looks empty, so I'm thinking that might be an ok place for this group. (I'd love to send them to Le Zie, a couple blocks down 7th, but I suspect the noise level will be too high.)

i think that's Highpoint Bistro & Bar. i did a search & there's not a single word of feedback about it here on CH, but plenty on OpenTable & Yelp if you want to check them out.
