Cape Cod Breakfast Mid to Lower Cape
Stemming from a previous breakfast thread indulge me....my idea of the perfect breakfast is real homemade maple syrup and jams, home baked breads and outside the box menu items. For me Hangar B is THE best mid Cape. I don't eat eggs or meat so my options are limited. I do love Jomama's for bagel sandwiches. WOWSA
I stumbled upon this menu..take a peak..

Wow menu looks good, but in view of my last post i will skip the three dollar banana side! Keep up the good work. I wish I got down cape more often, your reviews always intrigue!

Sophia, much appreciation for the link..sadly I am not a fan at all....the thing is, I don't eat eggs or meat and have found their other items mediocre at best. Their crab (or was it fish cakes) were massive weapon like bullet hard balls..my cousin's dog wouldn't even eat them. I tried my kid's mac and cheese..bleh..I betcha their egg items are great...

I'm thinking...."not so much".
I think the list that Ann has already posted is miles above what can be had a Grumpy's. Blechhhh.

C'mon. Grumpy's isn't gourmet and I wouldn't recommend it based on Ann's specifc criteria above. But it is in the same general "ballpark" as Keltic Kitchen which you just just recently proclaimed to be the "Cape's best breakfast". I'd put Keltic Kitchen and Grumpy's both in the "glorified diner" category - - - - which isn't a bad thing when you want an omlete and such. But to call one the best and the other "blechhh" is a bit unbalanced.

See, not only do I not see them in the same ballbark, but they are in entirely different leagues. I agree with the "diner" characterization somewhat, and I'll also agree that my recent review was somewhat biased due to still being sated from that yummy goodness, but Grumpy's is often a miss for me. Keltic never is. I also recall a rather negative review posted of Grumpy's from Phelana some time back which lead to my "not so much" comment.
(Edit, I just realized that Ann posted as I was composing my previous post, confirming her impression of Grumpy's. The seafood hash, salmon cakes, and mixed seafood cakes at Keltic all looked wonderful and not at all hard little balls as described by Ann, and I can personally compare the homemade corned beef hash is like night and day. My Blecch comment stands)
In actuality, Hangar B is a better product but it's a bit of a journey for this West Barnstable boy.

I've had a few "off" breakfasts at Keltic Kitchen (though never with the omlettes - - - especially the Irish sausage and cheese omlette), so maybe that is why I see similariies with them and Grumpy's. To me, both of them do omlette's well, but that is usually where my praise for them ends and everything else just seems average or OK. I'll be hitting Hangar B in 2 weeks and everything I've read and heard tells me this is going to be the best of the bunch. I hope my I'm not over-hyping my own expectations of Hangar B.

ok enough promoting Hangar B..let's keep it under wraps..what a find. I LOVE hole in the walls..Whilst I am a foodie snob I don't need high end fancy digs..I just didn't fancy Grumpys. Respect for those that do...and enjoy...love our banter and respect the diverse opinions here..

Foleyd, has it been awhile since your last Keltic visit? I ask as I was surprised by some of the new menu items and combos, that, to me at least, raised the bar somewhat on their food. Items like seafood hash or cakes, salmon cakes, lobster benny and such, along with cheese blintzes and cheddar and apple pancakes all looked terrific coming off the grille. Grumpy's just doesn't have those types of offerings.
And as Phelana so eloquently stated, although my own opinions are often seemingly cast in stone, I do respect the contrary and diverse opinions of others.

I haven't visited this year yet, but I do visit 3-4 times per year every year usually between April - Sept.
I will probably get there for the first time this year within the next few weeks.
A seafood hash would definitely entice me.

Boy, I stand corrected. Today, I took five family members to the place "Which Must not be Mentioned" and it's no contest, It's the absolute best b'fast on the Cape, hands-down. Talk about being in a totally diffeent league than anywhere else. I really had forgotten how special it truly is.The red flannel hash and lemon ricotta pancakes with warm Vermont maple syrup alone are worth the 90 minute round trip for this West Barnstable guy. :-)

did you have to wait for a table??...what days are they closed please?? I love that place..

Yes, we got there around 10 AM and there was about a 15 minute wait. A bit chilly as we had to wait on the outside deck. But they brought us some of their wonderful organic coffee to enjoy and keep us warm while we waited.
They are open from Wed-Sun. 7-2. I took a few pics and will post a small review when I get the chance. It really is EVERYTHING on your short list of what you seek for that special b'fast.

Sorry, CCG, but I can't track this thread to the place you are reviewing. Where did you have this awesome breakfast??!! Thanks!

LOL...it's Hangar B in Chatham at the airport. Sorry about my feeble attempt tp play on Phelana's post regarding keeping it a secret so as to not make it busier than it already is.
Well, well, well worth the visit from anywhere I assure you.

1. Chatham is mid cape??
2. OK, then so is Marstons Mills -- a very high quality, modest breakfast-and-lunch place is the Mills, on Rte 149, about 1/4 mile north of Rte 28. Some creative selections, and some surprising things are still made from scratch (I'm thinking of the corned beef hash.

1. Reread thread title.
2. Last simple b'fast at the Mills a month ago and eggs over-easy featured runny whites and limp bacon.
Yuck.

Finally made it to the "airport place" for breakfast during a quick weekend visit. I went with my sister and her family who discovered this gem last year and informed me of it. I had the lemon-ricotta pancakes and the special hash. I'll get back to the hash in a minute. Let me first say that the pancakes get my vote for "best pancakes on Cape Cod", especially with the real maple syrup. I was so indulged in them, I really didn't even notice what the other 6 people in my party were having. They were THAT good.
The hash? I had 3 distinct experiences with my first 3 bites: Bite 1: What is this? This isn't hash!! Bite 2: Hmmm - - - this may not be "normal" hash, but it does have some good, quality, interesting ingredients. Bite 3: I Love it; this may be the best hash on the Cape! It is made with un-normal ingredients like sweet potatoes, yukon golds, and beets topped with a horseradish sauce. Weird? Sure. Interesting? Sure. Awesome? Yes.
My other breakfast during this trip was at Red Cottage, and they are now relegated to 2nd best pancakes and 2nd best potato/hash side order. For the pancakes, I go with the Pumpkin pancakes that are not on the menu, but are on the special board 90% of the time And they serve real maple syrup (though you need to ask for it). And I had their Red Cottage home fries (not the standard home fries, but the special ones). They are potatoes with red and green peppers, onions, ham, and mushrooms. But what make them so special is the lemon hollandaise sauce poured over them. This hollandaise isn't overly heavy as the lemon gives it some lift and brightness that carries the dish.
I didn't get to Keltic this weekend to check out the new menu, but I'll be back up a few more times this summer so I will definitely check it out soon.

PS: Arrived around 7:45 on a Sat morning. No problem at all seating 7 people, including 3 kids. Still open space when we left too. At Red Cottage, arrived with same 7 people around the same 7:45 timeslot and had to wait about 10 min for them to get tables together. When we left however, the wait was out the door and 30 min +

Jillian and I went to Hangar B yesterday...it was very quiet at 7:30. Chef Erskine is a complete love..we had time to chat and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. I had fresh squeezed OJ and fish tacos..SUBLIME..Jillian had the hash..wowsa...the baked goods featured croissants, donuts, red velvet cupcakes and assorted other fresh baked treats. I asked Chef Erskine to make vegetarian hash. Would anyone else be interested so he can serve it within two days? I was thinking the 30th June? We don't need to dine together but he would like to serve it within two days for freshness.
