What is your favorite Izakaya in LA and why?

Hey Everyone,

I was just wondering what your favorite Izakaya is. I loved the plethora of izakaya litered around Tokyo where you could just go sit in a quiet secluded booth with 3 or 4 close friends and just enjoy same cold beer decent food for hours. I personally am more forgiving on the quality of izakaya food if it is reasonably priced (or accompanied by reasonably priced beer) and has that authentic feel. For example, I have a good time at Honda Ya in Little Tokyo but don't dig Fur Rai Bo (yes I know the chicken wings are good) because it is just always soo crowded and slightly too pricey from what I remember. Which izakayas are your favorites and why?

  1. We reached a fork in the road when you mentioned being forgiving on the quality of izakaya food. We really like Izakaya Bincho for the very reason that Tomo-san is an exquisite chef in such a humble and out-of-the-way place. We go there primarily for the food, and the beers are secondary (although he does have a short but very respectable sake list).

    1. given the cost of rent, not too many restaurants could survive on the westside with folks taking up tables for hours unless their prices are high enough to assure coverage of the table rent. this may explain your experiences here.

      1. There are many in the Torrance area but I don't know that area so well.
I have a tough time with your querry "and why?" I like these all for different "whys"...but look up what others have written and see what you thhink.
I have never felt "rushed" out at any of them but I don't usually spend more than 2-21/2 hours drinking and eating.
