Visiting Manhattan this weekend
My husband and I are visiting Manhattan this weekend and would love a suggestion for a restaurant for Friday night. Criteria - really good food and a great atmosphere which has good service, not so loud that you can't hear each other, and not rushed. We are willing to spend the money if it is worth it. As we come from Toronto, which has great, high end restaurants, we want to have a dining experience which we can only get in Manhattan. We are staying in midtown, but willing to travel to any part of the island.
I am open to try any cuisine. Budget - would be wiling to spend up to $200 if it is worth it. Don't care if it is casual or formal.
I understand that I have left this a little late, and things are booked up. That is why I posted on Chowhound - hoping to get a good suggestion that would be available.
$200 per person? Or $100pp x 2?
Are you including tax, tip, wine/drinks into that figure? It's more helpful to include a figure for food only.
The easiest thing to do right now is to pull up OpenTable.com, plug in your time/date/party size, and see if anything appeals. You can do a rough approximation of floating the upscale restaurants to the top by sorting by cost.
My husband and I recently enjoyed a dinner at Degustation in the E. Village. It's perfect for couples b/c it's all bar seating. It's Spanish inflected food - for a detailed review visit www.donuts4dinner.com. It's spot on. It fits nicely into your budget as well.
