One amazing dinner in Denver - Help?

  • 5

Hey fellow chowhounds!

I'm driving across the country for a big move and will be staying in Denver one night. Since it will be the first time I will be visiting the city, I must get your feedback on the best places in Denver for dinner. I like any type of food. As far as price range, I am traveling with my mother and she doesn't like spending too much money, so something between 20 and 30 dollars per person would be the max for dinner. Not sure what the location will be yet, but I will be entering town from the west on the 70 and exiting on the 76 the next day, so anything within about 10/15 minutes of the freeway would be excellent.

A brief footnote: While I want to hear about all the local favorites, we really like Thai food. Not sure how the Thai is in Denver, but if it's good and you have a place to suggest feel free to add it.

Thanks!

  1. I haven't been to Chada Thai recently, but it used to be very good -- and it's been around forever. It's in the Uptown area at about 17th & Race.

    1. Denver is not known for Thai food. You will find some decent thai here, but nothing great. Chada does have the nicest overal ambiance I think, but US Thai in Edgewater just west of downtown is typically given higher marks for its food. But it is more of just a diner atmosphere.

Our best ethnic food is Mexican, Vietnamese, and Korean... in my opinion. You can find a lot of Vietnam's and Korean in your price range, just do a chowhound search for favorites. A more upscale and modern take on vietnamese that would be in your range is Parallel 17, would make for a great meal, and nice patio. Federal blvd has the more traditional places, New Saigon is a lot of peoples favorite, I like Dalat (less crowded, less rushed).

      1. For inexpensive Thai, I'd go with US Thai in Edgewater.

        1. If you are looking for "one amazing dinner" in Denver, I'd not choose Thai. We have passable Thai, but it is not what we do best. When you say 20-30 dollars, do you mean out the door, entree price, entree and app together, what? Because many places have 20-30 entrees, but if you are hoping to get an entree and app and want to spend less than 30 with tax and tip, well, that is a different type of restaurant,

Good to know... I think I might scrap the Thai plan. You never know where you might find good Thai, and I just wanted to see if Denver might have been one of those places :) Not looking like it, tho

Looking more for around 20-30 out the door per person without drinks, entrees can be around 10-20 or so, we probably will get one app and split it and then two entrees. We tend to like local favorites in that price range or cheaper, or hidden gems.
