Family oriented restaurants with good food and music?
Hi there! I'd love to take out of town guests to someplace with great food and music. I have two young kids though so it has to be family friendly. Any ideas? All I've come up with is Central Market but I'd like to try some place else!

Boathouse Grill on 620 just south of 2222 fits your bill. Music on the weekends, playscape all the time. Also, second the Nutty Brown rec. Two Fridays a month, the have either The Eggmen (Beatles tribute) or Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes. I always see bunches of kids during those shows. Their web site will show the music calendar.

Thx for all your suggestions. I will try them in the future. We went to Freddie's and it was great for the kids. The food, though a bit greasy, was pretty good. I had the chicken and waffles, and everyone else had the burgers. Onion rings were great. The playground combined w/ live music made it enjoyable for the kids. My only major complaint is the number of people smoking near the playscape-??? people should know better! Thx again for the suggestions!

Don't count out Central Market. They have a large outside eating area and a huge play structure.
Music most nights on a small stage. The best part, I think, is the ability to buy things from the store (especially beer and wine) and enjoy outside. If you eat off the patio menu, consider the steak salad and the chinese chicken salad. Both excellent. Kids can eat pasta, grilled cheese etc. with steamed veggies.-----

Also a bit far out, but worth the drive is Walburg restaurant. Forget the food inside, get sausages outside, great beer selection, the Walburg boys band and dance the night away with the kiddos.

Thanks guys. Wed like to stay within the city as our guest have never been here before plus with little kids it'd be easier to not do a long car ride. I may check out freddies or uncle billy's. and heard also ghat Gueros tacos has live music? Anyone been?

Try Evageline Cafe on South Brodie. Great Cajun Food and live music. You'll need to check their website to see what nights the bands play. If you like fried oysters...try the Oyster's Contraband. They are out of this world!!

This may be too far out for you but Dahlia's Cafe in Liberty Hill has it all. Delicious food, live music on Friday and Saturday nights, a playgroud for the kids and huge oak trees to sit under while you eat. We ate there last Wed (they happened to have a Zydeco band playing), sat outside and those trees cooled it down to where it was comfortable.
Freddie's is my other suggestion, though the food is not nearly as good.

I haven't been there in several months, but Uncle Billy's on Barton Springs might be a good option - good food, music, laid back atmosphere. An interesting mix of people - families, young and older, kiddos, dogs hanging out... Centrally located, and easy access with the (free) parking garage around back. I used to play in a band that played there a lot (full disclosure), and families with young kids always seemed to have a good time.
