Help us pick our anniversary dinner spot in Kennebunkport, ME

My husband and I are celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary in Kennebunkport, ME at the end of June. We're looking for one nice, romantic dinner. I've read many messages so far and have narrowed it down to a few spots. I'd love to have some folks who've been to Kennebunkport weigh in, so we don't waste our money or our evening. White Barn Inn, though sounds amazing, is out of our budget this time around :-(

To help you judge, our criteria are:

1) Food must be good.
2) Romantic atmosphere (water view, outdoor dining, no kids)
3) Bonus points for local food, great cocktails and wine list, quite dinning room.

Our finalists (in no particular order):
- Bandaloop
- Stripers
- On the Marsh
- 50 Local

Also heard about MC Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, but is that really far? We don't like to drink and drive.

Additional suggestions welcome!

The White Barn Inn
37 Beach Avenue, Kennebunk Beach, ME 04043

Bandaloop
2 Ocean Ave, Kennebunkport, ME 04046

On the Marsh
46 Western Ave, Kennebunk, ME 04043

We had a significant anniversary dinner at the Cape Arundel Inn a couple of years ago. My suggestion: make a reservation for just after sunset. Then show up an hour or so early, order a cocktail and watch the sun set over the ocean from their wrap-around porch.

Thanks, beaner. I'll definitely add it to our list!

Consider Hurricane, has river views, upscale enough to be celebratory but nothing stuffy or too $$$.

Bandaloop and 50 Local do not have views. I wouldn't consider either an "event" restaurant.

Stripers has a view, but I cannot comment on the food (haven't been yet).

On The Marsh has a limited view of marsh / tidal area, but nothing remarkable. Food is among the upper tier for the area.

I second the suggestion of the Cape Arundel Inn. Request an Ocean view table -- It will be the best Ocean View under your criteria. Beaner2 has the right idea about the drink on the porch. They are under new ownership since I last visited, but previous ownership had excellent, professional service.

MC Perkins Cove will be at least 1/2 hour drive from Kennebunkport (without Ogunquit traffic). Ocean views are nice. Plenty of reviews on this Board on the food.

I would also recommend Grissini as an option. Same ownership group as The White Barn Inn. No view, but the food and service is among the best.

I've been to Grissini twice and been very disappointed in the food both times, for what it's worth. Nice atmosphere, but not really a romantic place in my opinion. I'd personally recommend Cape Arundel Inn for a nice dinner.

I agree. Grissinis food is nothing special, and is wildly inconsistent. On the Marsh is beautiful setting and wonderful food too.
Other restaurant with terrific views is Pier 77, overlooks the very scenic Cape Porpoise Harbor. Haven't been there for a while, but do remember having a very nice dinner last time we dined there.

Bandaloop has very good food, but there is no view. We have been there several times and well-behaved children were always present. I think Cape Arundel Inn as described above would be a better choice for what you are looking for.

Sounds like a universal vote for Cape Arundel Inn! So glad I posted this.

            UPDATE!

Sorry for the long wait for the update of the restaurant. We had a lovely dinner at Cape Arundel Inn. We arrived early as suggested for drinks on the porch. A storm had just passed and we were witness to a beautiful rainbow (double rainbow!) with our drinks.

Dinner was elegant and relaxed. The food was good. Husband ordered the Pan fried haddock with garlic mashed potatoes. The fact that I remember what he ordered goes to show how much he loved his meal!

I can't remember what I had, but I do know that I enjoyed a wonderful evening with my husband, great service, and a beautiful location. I would definitely go back!

Hi Joanna, I ordered up that double-rainbow just for you, LOL!! Seriously, I'm glad to hear you both enjoyed it. Cape Arundel Inn is definitely a splurge for us, but for a special occasion, it's worth it, IMO.
