Need Diner Advice - Union Area

Hi All,

For a casual family meeting of 7 tomorrow, including kids aged 7-13, what diner is best food, cleanest, nicest?

Have it narrowed to these 3 for proximity:

University Diner
Union Plaza Diner
Kenilworth Diner

Went to the Union Plaza, it was fine.

I understand your points about these diners, but it was a 1 year memorial service for my dad, and he was a Jersey diner kind of guy, so there we went -

Diners??? Yikes!! Bright lights, hundreds of menu items (so none are any good), all past their prime, from a bygone era.

Try Theresa's in Westfield, great for families, nice surroundings, they can give you a big round table, and they are only a $buck or 2 more than a diner on the entrees.

lternatively, a good new place is Food in Summit. Sleek and modern, great for families, and truly GREAT burgers!

Go check out the Sklark sometime, Menton! Might change your mind about SOME diners... :-) Fwiw, Craig Shelton consulted on their menu.

Why go to a diner when, in 2011, there are so many better alternatives? If it was 1979, maybe.

Why not go to Theresa's or Food? (see above)

The Kenilworth Diner has some very decent food (for a diner). I will have to disagree with Menton1 about Theresa's. I was just there on Friday night for dinner and while their food is very good, I'm not so sure a 7 year old would be happy with the menu.

Kids usually love pasta, of which there are several entrees there... Also I recommended Food in Summit, which has myriad choices for young'uns.

I don't know these diners, but if you can go a bit further, the Skylark Diner on Rt 1 in Edison has some really good (and interesting) food on the menu! NOT your typical NJ diner fare.

Thanks Curlz, will keep the Skylark in mind! Went to the Union Plaza, it was pretty good
