Upscale Lebanese Restaurant for a Business Dinner?

  • 9

I have been tasked with finding an upscale Lebanese restaurant in Chicago for a business dinner. The client has specifically requested Lebanese cuisine. Any location in Chicago is fine as well as a Northwestern or Near Western or Near Northern Suburb. It will be a small group (not more than 4, I believe).

My go-to is Taste of Lebanon, but in this situation it will not work! My suggestion for the business dinner was Semiramis, but was told that was not upscale enough. Any ideas? Short of Lebanese food are there any other Middle Eastern places that might fit the fanciness bill?

Thanks for your help!

  1. I am not aware of any Lebanese or Middle Eastern restaurants that are nicer inside than Semiramis. It is a very comfortable, well decorated, B+ dining room. Certainly much, much nicer inside than Taste of Lebanon. Also, the entree choices are more complex and expensive than more casual Middle Eastern spots. Because the place is BYO, you could impress your client with high quality wines. It is nicer and has much better food than Noon O Kabob.

How is it better? Fresher ingredients? I'm picking one to go to soon.

I realize one is Persian, other Lebanese. But am curious about the details of cleanliness.

Semiramis is a nice place with good food, but you can't really say it's "much better" than Noon O Kebab. They both have their strong points and the cuisines are appreciably different (and I much prefer Noon O Kebab over Reza's). That said, Semiramis isn't all that "much more complex" than other spots. It's a nicer room than it's neighbor across the street, Salam, but I think Salam does a better job on the ubiquitous falafel/hummus/baba ghannouj/tabbouleh. It's not a place I'd recommend for a business dinner but if you want a great meal, it's a great choice.

Thank you. I think I'll go with Semirami then.

    2. Not Lebanese but would Sayat Nova work for "upscale"?

      1. Cedars of Lebanon is definitely Lebanese. It's In Hyde Park on the south side of Chicago. It has a lot of free parking.

        1. Kan Zaman is perfect!!!

Great food and great atmosphere, plus it's a bit more upscale than your typical Lebanese or Middle Eastern restaurant in Chicago. Their Website is under construction, but here's a link from menupages.com:

            Here you go!

            1. It's not Lebanese and not exactly Middle Eastern, but it might be upscale enought to suit your needs - Taxim, in Wicker Park. It's a nice room and the chef is definitely trying to elevate Greek cuisine beyond what you're likely to find in Greektown (not that there's anything wrong with the classics!).
