Recs for Group Dinner in DuPont or Georgetown area

  • 9

Hello! I'm in charge of organizing a dinner for a work group for people from out of town (including me) and I don't know where to start. Does anyone have any recommendations for a group dinner (about 20 people) in the Georgetown or DuPont area? Nothing too fancy/pricy, but nice. Thanks!

  1. Ha, I just did this yesterday for work. Tough since our event is on a Monday, and a limited budget. I was looking at Georgetown only.
Il Canale will give you the second floor reserved. $15 Neopolitan pizzas. I voted for this but my boss deemed it too far a walk.
Or, Daily Grill has a private event option - $34/person though, too pricey for our event.
I was also considering Mai Thai and Aditi as cheap options, though I didn't get very far since they're closed on Mondays.

Il Canale is great! Perfect pizza but also good pastas as well.

    2. Hi, Take a look at my post about Vento. (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/785360) You can check out their website to see the menu. If your group will stick with the pastas or appetizer combos it can be fairly reasonable.

I also organized a successful group meal at Bistro DuCoin (http://www.bistrotducoin.com/). Ask for a separate room.

      1. Neyla in Georgetown is another option. I think they have a preset menu for large parties.

        1. I haven't been yet, but Firefly in Dupont is often recommended on this board, and they have a private dining room.

I was thinking of Firefly too. Their private room is quite nice.

Daily Grill has good private rooms, but the food isn't as good. Though perhaps it's safer for a work event.

Firefly has a minimum. It is actually difficult to meet, too (maybe if your group drinks a lot it's a bit easier?). We had 32 people there for a rehearsal dinner and couldn't meet the minimim and the food was not as good as I was expecting. And if you use the bar area (which we did), even though they can close it off, it was very loud and very warm.

One thought would be Darlington House. I thought the service/food were excellent for the price point and they handled my party of 12 a couple of nights before my wedding very well.

Additionally, Urbana might be able to host your group - they have a large table and a private area, and it's not (in my opinion) too expensive. they seem like they'd be willing to block off an area for 20 people moreso than Firefly.

            2. Firefly has a private room that fits a group about your size. Also Urbana would be great! I love their food these days. If you are interested in ethnic food Heritage India would work.

              1. Thanks for all the great recommendations everyone! It looks like we have some very good choices!
