Grab a drink

New to the area (live in metairie but answers can be related to GNO) and I'm looking for a good casual place for two mid-twenties to go grab a drink, think first date - get to know each other type thing, on a friday night.. any suggestions would be much appreciated

thanks

  1. Just drinks, or also food?

The problem with Metairie casual is that it can also be crowded and noisy. My thought for a first meeting would be one of the N.O. hotel bars or restaurant related bars, like Hermes or French 75 or Carousel. Hermes has a great happy hour. The Columns might be a great compromise

One possibility in the complete opposite direction is the casual and funky Rivershack.

probably not food - as it will be later in the evening around 9 or 10

and I'm fine with going to New orleans, i think she live on that side anyhow.

Some friends have suggested Lucy's, the bulldog, vics, or finn's - thoughts?

Lucy's, the bulldog, vics, or finn's? All cool bars....not exactly what I think of for a first date. collardman has some good suggestions. A few more upscale, but still casual bars: Uptown....Cure, Bouligny Tavern. Quarter....Tonique, Sylvain.

You stole my thoughts. Though it's been decades (and decades), since I was on a first date, I would definitely choose a quieter place, with good, attentive, but not intrusive service. I would want plenty of time to listen to my date, and get to know her, outside of an area with over-stimulation.

        To the OP, enjoy,

        Hunt

I'm a big fan of the Carousel Bar.

        2. Loa inside the international hotel. It's pretty and romantic. Great place for a 1st date or even Bouligny Tavern on magazine uptown.

          1. My GF and I went on a date to Feelings in the Marigny. The place is funky and feels five hundred years old -- oh, wait it is.

The bartender was quirky, OK everybody was. My sazerac was amazing. The courtyard is opulently verdant.

The walk back to the quarter was romantic too -- nice neighborhood.

Wow, I've never heard of this place, but it sounds fun. I'll have to add it to my to-check-out list!

I had thought of Feelings, but more for a nice dinner date than a drink spot. Your discription really pegged it. Great!

              2. How bout the Delachaise? They now have outdoor seating on St. Charles Ave. It's a bar with great food if you want a cheese plate or some small plates.

                1. I second the delachaise, has a very romantic feel, food and good libations

                  1. Winston's on Metairie Road.
