Looking for Charlotte restaurant that emphasizes local ingredients and good drinks

I'm looking for a place in Charlotte to have dinner as a family of four. Our last trip to the Queen City featured a rather disappointing dinner at Kalu. The food seemed an overpriced and dialed down take on izakaya food with a lacking drink selection. They had only one wine (a buttery Chardonnay) available that our server steered us away from. Not to run down the place, perhaps we were there on an off night...Chef Emperor seemed nice.

Ideally, I'm looking for a restaurant that emphasizes locally grown food, prepared simply and well, has some inventive cocktails and a decent wine/beer selection. In the Triangle, Lantern, Four Square, Poole's Diner, and Watt's Grocery would fit this bill.

Any suggestions?

  1. Without much information about your preferences, I had to create the following list based on a few assumptions: your family doesn't include toddlers nor picky eaters; you're willing to explore outside of Uptown (downtown); and you're willing to try any cuisine. I hope the following list works for you.

Check out: Good Food on Montford, Halcyon, Table 274, Lulu, Mimosa Grill. Harvest Moon Grill, Bistro La Bon, Bonterra, Carpe Diem, New South Kitchen.

    Mimosa Grill
    327 S Tryon St, Charlotte, NC 28202

    New South Kitchen & Bar
8140 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC 28277

I haven't been to Table 274 and I'm not a big fan of Bonterra but the rest of your list looks solid.

Thanks for the tips so far. Here's a little more about my group of four. Our kids are 7 and 10 and very adventurous eaters. We are willing to try any cuisine. OK to explore beyond Uptown.
