Vegetarian Options in and around New Orleans

One of my best friends is moving to New Orleans. He's never been and a vegetarian. Even though I selfishly want him to start eating meat or at least shellfish while he's in New Orleans, I'd like to help him out with some suggestions.
He'll be living just South East of the fairgrounds (I forget exactly which street) and he'll have a car and bicycle, so distance won't be a huge deal. He's not a strict vegetarian, per se either. He'll eat things made with meat stocks or sauces, just not actual meat bits.
Thanks ahead!

i noticed on urbanspoon.com/new orleans, that they have a section for vegetarian. there are a lot of people in new orleans today who are vegetarian or semi, i have noticed a lot of restaurants are responding to that. tom fizmorris' site nomenu.com may also have a listing for vegetarians.

I'm not sure exactly what his concern would be - I can't think of a single restaurant in the city that wouldn't be able to accommodate your friend, especially if he's not picky about meat or seafood stocks. Can you clarify if he's interested specifically in places near his house, or maybe in food resources (guides, critics, etc.) that would be useful to people new to the city?
