"Canadian" Food!!??

Anyone know of a place in east Toronto/Scarborough where one can get ordinary Canadian food.
You know, sandwiches made with two pieces of ordinary bread, not an onion bun, wrapped in a pita or naan. I do like ethnic foods, but it would be nice to be able to go out to a place that has pork chops, meat loaf, BLT's and egg salad on the menu. Food Mom used to make, that is if you grew up in Toronto in the '50's/'60's!

Id suggest trying out T-Bones in Scarborough. Its a 24 hour restaurant that does everything from Steak to Pork Chops to Fish and Chips, mashed potato's, fries, poutines, Homemade Burgers and more. You can even get Apple Sauce with your pork chops, along with maybe some Mashed Potato's and gravy. Ive always found the food there to be decent if not really good. They have a 16oz Ny Strip with side(fries/mash/roasted potato) and ceaser salad for $11.99.

I agree with carocantcook on Watts. Nothing spectacular, but what you're looking for. You can also try the Colony at Warden and Lawrence, also it close for remodeling about a year or so ago, so I don't know if the menu or management has since changed.

The Colony is no longer there. It is now a Greek restaurant.

You might like Patrician Grill on King near Jarvis. If that is too far, there's the Wexford in Scarborough and McSorley's in Leaside.

I thought of one more - Watt's in Eglinton Square. It's been there forever and very popular with older white people.

The Pickle Barrel has all the types of food you're looking for. I can't say that it's good, but it's got what you want. :)

Also, pretty much any of the "family" restaurants around the city will have the types of stuff you're looking for. Terry's, at the corner of Ellesmere and Bellamy has a egg salad sandwiches on white bread, pork chops, meat loaf, etc.

Tried Terry's today for lunch. Pretty good egg salad sandwich! Friendly staff. Will go back again!

Check out Sisters Restaurant Scarborough menu-many traditional dishes, chicken pot pie, roast beef, BLT, etc.

Used to go to Sisters all the time because we lived in the neighbourhood. Was there a few weeks ago and has changed hands. Some old favs but beginning to lean ethnic, which is not bad. As the waitress told me they are changing to fit the area.
