Brooklyn Botanical Garden nerd seeking good food

I know Brooklyn has some really good food! Where is the food near (ish) the Brooklyn Botanical Garden? Love to have some locally sourced or just plain weird place to check out!

You can also try Cheryl's on underhill for interesting 'global' food and Farm for locally sourced ingredients.

There are a number of threads on this subject you might want to look at - usually phrased "where to eat near the Brooklyn Museum". Search "Brooklyn Museum" for scads and oodles of info.

Depends on how ish nearish is in your book. There are plenty of things on Vanderbilt--Amorina has good and interesting pizza and Beast has some tasty not-typical pub grub. Definitely the best, and mostly locally sourced, food in that area(ish) is Franny's (maybe jump on the subway one stop to GAP?). I also LOVE the French-Guadeloupian food at Kaz an Nou (but that's another stop to Bergen St).

I haven't been there, but does Basil Pizzeria, patronised by the full array of Crown Heights-dwelling hipsters, Hasidic people, Hispanic-Americans and African-Americans, count as weird?

I'll be spending a fair amount of time at the Gardens over the next year so I love the recommendations! By weird I meant someplace you wouldn't find any where else - perhaps I should have said unique?
Thanks so much for all the recs! I can't wait to try them out! Keep them coming!

I would add Tom's on Washington to the list for breakfast or lunch. The food is basic (albeit well done) diner fare, but the atmosphere is great.

Basic is good if well done, like you say! Thanks for the rec!

Try Mitchell's on Vanderbilt. Excellent soul food.

I generally go to The Islands when I'm over there. Excellent curry goat, salad, lemonade and more. Really lovely owners too.

Wholehearted agreement... The Islands is amazing. I don't think you can go wrong with anything there, but I'm a fan of the stew peas and sorrel.
