There are two Colombian restaurants in the general Silverlake area, CHIBCHA (2619 W Sunset Blvd Los Angeles CA---across from Mae Ploy)and LA FONDA ANTIOQUENA (4903 Melrose Ave Los Angeles). Have not been to La Fonda, personally, but good things have been said about it on this board.

Chibcha is awesome. Lotsa good, homey grub for excellent prices. Simple, informal joint, with occasionally painfully slow service. Recommended dishes (forgive misspellings and such, please):

Bandeja Paisa --- Platter crammed full of carne asada, chicharones, arepas, rice/beans, all topped with a fried egg. Somewhere, a cardiologist is smacking his lips.

Antijaco Santaferreno---A chicken soup full of herbs, served with a huge dollop of crema you mix in. Wonderful

Pollo a la Brasa---Simple, tasty, cheap

Sobrebarriga en salsa---brisket in tomato-y sauce with faint hits of curry. Sort of a Colombian take on ropa vieja.

    Mojarra Frita---whole fried tilapia.

One of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Beer/wine only, and you will unconditionally leaved absolutely stuffed.

Chibcha is indeed a terrific resto.

Add to the list the astonishing chicharrones -- a bracelet of deep-fried pork. Some meat, but mostly fat & skin. The closest thing to fresh ham cracklin's & heaven above.

There are two restaurants. One is called La Fonda Antioquena and it is on Melrose, near the 101. Bring a big appetite -- they serve a full meal in a pretty humble, homey setting. My wife is Colombian and while she insists that no food outside Colombia is any good, she thinks this is probably the best Colombian restaurant in the States. The other restaurant is Chibcha and it is on Sunset. Their arepas are really good, but it is probably not as good as La Fonda.

La fonda antioquena is fantastic. I love the lulo (narnajilla/ solanum quitoense) shakes. One of the best drinks in town (water, no milk).

Also, if you're pal is ever in north hollywood or near the burbank airport, there's a place on victory called La Maria which is quite good.

I have been to La Maria a bunch of times. How does it compare to the others mentioned above?

LA Fonda Antioquena is a little more elaborate I think. Haven't been to chibcha.
