Cacio e Pepe in LA

First of all, making an account on here has been overdue. I finally got around to it for this reason alone:

I've been looking for the best cacio e pepe in OC/LA. I understand it's hard to compare to Roma Sparita and all of it's reggiano bowl glory. I've done some research and have concluded that a few places have done an "okay" job at it, but I want something more solid than that, if possible.

So shoot them at me...I'm on a mad hunt!

  1. Start with the version at Osteria Mozza

2nd Mozza. Not the greatest I've ever had by any stretch, but pretty darn good.

    2. Definitely try the one at Rustic Canyon. It's amazing.

      1. Piccolo Paradiso makes a wonderful Cacio e Pepe...but it's so easy to make a pretty darn good one at home that I rarely order it out!

surprisingly Bucato's version was my least favorite on the menu. loved their other pasta dishes more. Just too thick IMHO.

Yeah, if you aren't a fan of thick, supple, chewy fresh pasta then you (general you here, not you specifically), should almost certainly avoid Bucato, or at least ordering the pasta there.

Personally, it's damn near my favorite pasta on the planet.

Oh I loved all the other pasta we had there. I think it was just expectations of the classic version of cacio e pepe, and the thickness threw me off (even though I loved his pasta in other dishes there). :>

                thanks!

Funny, I just had this in Rome I said, better than Bucato! I almost posted my pic to Bucato's Facebook page for fun but I didn't have the guts to do it.

              1. Bucato in Culver City!!! Look at pix on instagram. It's the real deal.
