Has anyone been to the Galley restaurant in Nantucket recently?

  • 7

There are 4 of us who vacation on the island every summer but we've never been to the Galley. Avoided it in the past b/c it seemed like quite the scene (and probably still is). But this year, we wanted to try something different. Debating whether to commit to dinner reservations or if there's an option to go late afternoon / early eve for cocktails and raw bar without reservations... just not sure how big the bar area is and/or the lounge seating that is supposedly right on the beach.

  1. There is seating on the beach, right outside the bar area. I would probably go with that late afternoon bar plan rather than dinner. It is just so stinkin' expesive, and they only get those prices because they are right on the beach, so once the sun goes down and it's dark (no view), what are you paying for? Not sure about their rez policy for those tables. Sounds like fun!

      Perfect - thanks for confirming!

I concur with ciclista. Spectacular view, but after sunset? Over-priced meal that wasn't that great.
I would go for the bar/sunset view, no food.

I don't think I would even go for the bar. $16 for a cocktail made with absolut vodka? (and that's the low end). I don't think so. I know it cost more to get supplies there, etc, but that's just a gouge for the sake of gouging. I'll make my own and take it to the beach in a thermos. ;-)

Ha! That sounds like a good plan. For the last couple of years we rented in Sconset and paid similar for drinks at the Summer House bar... this year we're renting near Jetties without a car so we figured maybe we should try the Galley. I think we'll find our way back to Pi, no view but fun little bar and IMO, good food.

I still think the Galley is worth it. Awesome renovation. I'd rather spend a little extra and sit at the Galley, overlooking the ocean than at Pi (which I like BTW) overlooking West Creek Rd. I think you can understand the difference the Galley pays for rent and what Pi pays for rent? You want to rent in Siasconset or Madaket? Perhaps it's not for everyone but I think it's a worthy splurge.

I completely understand and appreciate the cost of rent and the price of the food and drinks. Thanks to you all for sharing your opinions - its definitely helpful.
