LIGHT Sunday brunch

amysuehere May 31, 2011 07:10 PM

Parents are in town and will be here just for early brunch Sunday and I really don't want the eat till you burst option, Lamberts included. Would love someplace with an Austin vibe (flip happy?) with a light option. Thoughs?

    What about the Eastside Cafe?

I was going to recommend Eastside too, but the Flip Happy thing threw me off. I try to take out of town guests to Eastside Cafe as often as I can. You can order light there, but my favorite dish, Huevos Mexicanos, is pretty heavy. My husband and I often share it which is perfect. It's definitely got the Austin vibe happenin', make sure you ask to be seated in the house, and be sure to check out the garden and the chickens.

I asked for the garden room (it's been years sinve I've been). Was that a mistake?

The house has more housey charm, while the garden room is very obviously within an added-on building.

FWIW, I think the garden room is more pleasant to dine in, while the house reigns supreme for a classy, "I'm in a house that was converted to a restaurant" atmosphere.

          Your mileage may vary!

(Remember: their bacon is really good. If your dish doesn't come with, order a side.)

I kind of feel like I'm eating in trailer when I eat in the garden room. It's good for large groups though. I always request inside the house now and have even waited a little longer to be seated there. I think it's worth the wait.

Mother's might be a good choice, if you think everyone would be ok with it being a vegetarian place.
