trouble editing posts using iPhone (anyone) but me?

new iphone 3GS had 1 1/2 months.
used to be able to edit posts in the time allotted by CH but now (although the edit word is still there/visible) the ability to edit (my old post I'm trying to edit) doesn't show up.
is this happening to anyone else?
newest version of iPhone updates installed.
java script in settings is on.
please advise if you know the problem too and have resolved it.
TIA

  1. I reported the "no edit" problem previously and it has not been fixed yet, as far as I can tell. Looks like Jeremy is testing it now for iPhone 4.

Edited to add: Here's my bug report of April 1
    http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/7604...
At that time ChowHQ acknowledged it and hoped to have it fixed by April 21.

      thank you Melanie

I have joined the coversation over there, didn't know it existed, thanks again..........
this is soooooooo annoying, where are the PTB....................................powers that be?

Well, here's a test post from Jeremy LaCroix http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/787560 . He's the Creative Director and responsible for this site's design.

          "whoops file not found"

          1. re: iL Divo

He said edit wasn't working for him either on iPhone 4 and hoped to remedy it in the next release. I pointed him to the thread with other iPhone view bugs that need to be addressed. His test post served the intended purpose, so I guess it was removed.

            1. re: Melanie Wong

              thanks MW

              wondered if it was my
phone. it seems to have a bug or two & thought this was one more

    2. IPhone editing is working now. Thank you Engineering and Mr. Lacroix!

      1. re: Melanie Wong

        oh that's great news

haven't tried in a long time now, sort of forgot about it and if I'm posting, I wait until I have a real computer, even then, I mess up

      2. I have an LG (Android) and it won't let me edit either. Though it was me...

        1. Edit is no longer working for iPhone.

          1. re: Melanie Wong

I might note that it was never (intentionally) fixed. Iphone editing started working as a side effect of the ongoing infrastructure upgrades, but the latest batch may have knocked it off-kilter again. This fortunately narrows down the number of potential culprits; we'll keep you appraised of the situation.

            1. re: Engineering

Any updates abot a "fix" for iPhone editing of posts?

              1. re: ellenost

The exact cause is still unfortunately unknown, though we have recently acquired some resources that will make it easier to track down. Our apologies for the delay, and thank you for your patience.

                1. re: ellenost

Actually, I just successfully edited posts from an iPhone (version 4.2.1) on both our test environment and the live site's test thread. What problem are you experiencing exactly?

                  1. re: Engineering

I did an edit successfully just now on 3GS. Could not when I tried last week.

                    1. re: Melanie Wong

Let me know when/if it happens again.

                      1. re: Engineering

Not working now. Just tried to edit and when I hit the button, I get shot up to the top of the page. When I scroll down, the text in my post is gone. I refreshed the thread and the text returned. Tried twice more, same action. This is a new behavior, different than previous edit nonperformance.

                        1. re: Melanie Wong

This would appear to be an unrelated problem, though the timing seems odd. Is it only the one post?

                          1. re: Engineering

No, tried in two other threads.

Edit: and this morning looks like it's working again. Have not changed anything on my phone, no reset.

                            1. re: Melanie Wong

And we haven't changed anything on the site in that time, which makes this even stranger...

                    2. re: Engineering

I haven't tried editing my CH posts in a while, so I'll try again. I'll let you know either way.

                      1. re: ellenost

Just tried to edit a post, and it seems to be working now. Maybe I got lucky.

                        1. re: ellenost

Just tried to edit a post, and the edit feature stopped working again from my iPhone. Very disappointing.

                          1. re: ellenost

Also baffling. This error appears to be coming and going as though on its own. It's conceivable that the problem is specific to certain posts- can you link me to the post that caused the problem?

                            1. re: Engineering

I cannot edit my most recent post from my iPhone:

                              http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/803119

                              1. re: ellenost

To be certain I understand what's happening- you click the "Edit" link, but nothing happens, right?

                                1. re: Engineering

Actually, when I click the "Edit" link, the page shoots to the very top by the Chowhound banner, and when I scroll back down to my post, all I see is my name with no post.

                                  1. re: ellenost

I was afraid of that. This is a Javascript problem of some kind, though it's puzzling that you can reply but not edit under these circumstances. If we're very lucky, this may be as simple as clearing your cache. Could you please give that a try and let me know?

                                    1. re: Engineering

Sorry, but I'm not tech smart enough to know how to clear my cache on my iPhone. How does one do that?

                                      1. re: ellenost

In Settings, go to Safari, scroll to the bottom, select "Clear Cache", and cross your fingers that this is the solution.

                                        1. re: Engineering

OK, just cleared the cache. Same problem: cannot edit from iPhone. I'm editing my post from my computer.

                                          1. re: ellenost

I'm at a bit of a loss, then; I've been experimenting with an iPhone for most of the morning, and thus far have not managed to recreate the problem. I'll keep looking; in the mean time, our apologies for the trouble, and thank you for your patience.

                                            1. re: Engineering

                                              Not working post-maintenance.

                                              1. re: Melanie Wong

Just to be clear, was it working prior to the maintenance?

                                                1. re: Engineering

Definitely working as of 8/31. And for some time after. But couldn't tell you when I last tried to use it.

                                                  1. re: Melanie Wong

I was able to edit on my iphone today about 4or 5 hours ago.
I forgot a word when I read my post, thought shoot, and edit worked, so...
I should try it now and see if I can see edit a post.

know what, that's a lie. I was using my little computer, not my iphone when I edited my post.

just tried on my iphone, nope can't edit. :(

nope can't edit now using my iphone

                2. The problem is, you all need to get an iPad...no problem here!

                  1. re: Mother of four

Too big to fit in my pocketbook. Maybe Apple can create a mid-size tablet.

                    1. re: ellenost

Well you will just have to get a larger pocketbook!! I do love mine.

                  2. Just tried to edit a post and got the message "something has gone wrong. Please refresh and try again." I did and still no luck.
