Suggestions for caterers for crabfest for 70+ ppl in the mid-Atlantic area?
Wondering if anyone has had a catered a crabfest in the mid-Atlantic area? I've seen a few websites, but curious if anyone has any personal experience hosting a crabfest for a fairly large crowd. Would be hosted in Northern Virginia if that makes a difference.
Looking for reasonable cost and fresh crabs. No side items or drinks necessary, but providing crab eating tools would be necessary.
Thanks in advance...
A co-worker of mine uses Shoreline for an annual crab feast. She's been using them for about 8 years now, this year for a little over 400 people. She was telling me that all you can eat crabs, shrimp, chicken, burgers, dogs runs about 30pp. That does not include beer or sodas.
She says they are real happy with them.
I saw that there website seems to be down, but their number is 410-721-7767.
I have gotten crabs from Shoreline myself. They were good, but they are not my go to spot.
In NoVa you might check with the Quarterdeck in Arlington. They may do some catering.
70 people at and average of 6 crabs per person is 420 crabs, if a bushal is 7 dozen or 84 crabs per bushal so you will need 4 bushels of crabs. you will need 7 round tables of 10, 70 chairs, a large roll of brown paper to cover the tables, 70 mallets and crab knives. you should contact area crab houses such as Bethesda Crab House, Obrycki's in Baltimore, Cantlers in Annapolis and see if they would be willing to do something like that or could they rec someone. The other thought is to go to area caterers and see if they can pull something like this off?

re: dining with doc
Good point Doc. In fact, if all the OP needs is the crabs, then you don't need a caterer at all. Instead, call Captain White's or Jessie Taylor's at he Maine Avenue seafood market and order 4 bushels of crabs. Then rent a car for the day and pick them up yourself (you don't want 4 bushels of hot crabs in your car...trust me).
