ISO dog & vegetarian friendly restaurant

  • 1

I'm looking for restaurant recommendations. Hoping to dine this Wednesday but need a place that will be vegetarian friendly (Not vegan so dairy, eggs, etc. are fine) but that also has outdoor seating that is dog friendly as we'll be dining with 2 small (15-20 lb) dogs. Any recommendations? And I should say when I mean vegetarian friendly, I'm thinking of a place that has a few vegetarian options to choose from as my dining companion is the vegetarian so I'd like to be polite. Open to different kind of cuisines and ambiance.

  1. In 2008, Chicago passed an ordinance under which restaurants with outdoor seating can obtain a special license, called a Dog Friendly Area License, allowing dogs in those areas. Other restaurants without that special license can do so, but finding one may be iffy (and those restaurants probably wouldn't appreciate the mention of it on the internet). You can read more about the Dog Friendly Area License on the city's website at http://www.cityofchicago.org/content/...

I found a listing of such places on this website, but it may not be complete or up-to-date: www.rublogg.com/?p=1058

I see Deleece on Southport on that list, and it's one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It's not exclusively vegetarian but they have some vegetarian items on the menu; I think a vegetarian would be happy there. The atmosphere is bistro, the prices are moderate, and the cuisine is contemporary American. As for the other places listed, you'll have to check their menus to see which ones are vegetarian friendly.

I would suggest calling ahead to make sure the restaurant you plan to go to still has the Dog Friendly Area License. (It costs them $450 a year so if they don't get the demand they may not have renewed it.)
