  1. I lived in the neighborhood for three years. The only places in walking distance worth mentioning, IMHO, are:

    Thai Market
    Indus Valley
    Red Rooster
    Taquerea Y La Fonda Mexicana
    Dinosaur Bar B Que (kinda)

Haven't been to Red Rooster, but the others are all solid choices, although varying considerably in ambiance and ambition. I'd add a few more:

      Sura Thai Urban Kitchen

      Sura
2656 Broadway, New York, NY 10025

      Vareli
2869 Broadway, New York, NY 10025

    2. Massawa on 121`st, Ethiopian

Charles' is not close, but Rack and Soul (Charles' other restaurant) is definitely walking distance.

Yeah, but Rack and Soul is just terrible.

        2. If you're going to inlcude Indus Valley (a bit south of what I think of as Columbia area but fair enough), I'd add Noche Mexicano for great tortas and fries. I'd also second Vareli, which I tried for the first tme Monday. Ambitious menu, especially for the neighborhood, and largely successful based on the one visit.
