Strawberries Not Sweet!

This is the second season for our strawberries and although they are plentiful and beautiful...they aren't sweet. Is there anything to do at this point?

  1. Have you been having a lot of rain? That often has the effect of diluting the flavor. The berries are starting to really come in now for us and they look great, but the flavor isn't as intense because of all the rain we've had.

We just started picking early cherries today as well and they're in the same boat with the addition of a lot of splits from entirely too much rain.

We have had a lot of rain. But I'm wondering if something needed to be added to the soil to make it more basic or acidic. They really look great and there are so many that the groundhogs and chipmunks kindly leave some for us. I just wish they were sweeter....they are rather sour now. Do you put anything into the soil besides fertilizer?
