Yes Virginia, there is liqour in Black Mountain, NC (and a good restaurant too!)

Its true and wonderful! New owners have taken over the Monte Vista hotel and transformed it into a cleaner, cooler hotel, restaurant and bar. The owners were able to find 25, yes 25 loopholes in the no liqour law leaving the powers that be, no options to reject them. While its not the Red Stag, it is a welcome addition to the area, I had a rather decent dirty martini fireside while watching the storm out the window.
Monte Vistas have also opened a restaurant called Palate. The menu is varied from gourmet burgers and sandwhiches, to full entrees. We were having a low key dinner. We both started with creamy tomato basil soup and ate every last bite. The soup was creamy with some crushed tomato still intact, garden grown ribbons of basil, with served with grilled foccia. For main course had a chopped caprese salad ( I guess I was craving tomatos). It came out with fresh, crisp greens, juicy tomatos an house made fresh mozzeralla. The salad was dressed in a creamy vinegrette. It was really delicious, and HUGE. The certinally did not skimp on the mozzeralla, I gave a good amount to my boyfriend and still had plenty! My boyfriend had a fried green tomato sandwhich. Served on a fluffy crossiant, tart green tomatoes, bacon, a fried egg and aoli. Again, this 8 dollar sandwhich was huge, served with fries and a salad of various fresh peppers. The bite I had was very tasty but seriously rich! The table near us had more serious entrees salmon, steak and pasta, all looke beautiful and were well recieved.
Our meal, 2 (non alcoholic) drinks, 2 smalls soups, a entree salad and entree sandwhich came to $24. We enjoyed the experience and will add to our regular rotation. Check it out if you find yourself in Black Mountain.
