Keu, Old Street/Shoreditch, London
A classic combination of banh mi garnishes, coriander leaves, sweet and tangy pickled daikon, red chilli. Good soft and comforting meatballs (siu mai in Vietnamese, related but not the same as the dim sum item), well seasoned, prominent white pepper and pork. Bread was denser and heavier than usual, more like levain than a baguette, and crusty in a very slightly chewy manner rather than the shattering lightness over airy white bread. I prefer the Vietnamese baguette for its lightness and textural contrast with the filling, so this bread, while fresh, was somewhat disappointing. ~£5 for a sizable banh mi.
