Driving to Seattle [moved from Los Angeles board]
I just became a Grandma and driving to Seattle second week in June to see my new Grandaughter. Reason we are drining instead of flying is the baby shower was here in LA and we have tons of gifts to carry and deliver. So my question is if anyone has done this route is there anywhere you would not miss eating at along the 19 hour trip, places that are maybe off the beaten path. Will stop overnight but want original Mom and Pop Like Diners, Dive and Drive Ins not fancy and even though this a foodie site, any attractions along the way that we should not miss? We are purposely avoiding the big cities to take the off beat path and just take our time.

Pismo Beach - Mo's BBQ in downtown Pismo Beach for Philthy Phil's ribs (only) - quick service, nice time for a break on your drive from LA to SF on Highway 101 if you are going that way. Finger licking good ribs - sweet, tender, fall off the bone with perfect sauce and perfect side dishes. Not "girlie" food, but I love it.
South of San Luis Obispo - Madonna Inn Copper Cafe - their half BLT plus blue cheese dressing salad is worth a drive too and this is very much a "girlie" type place with its over the top kitschy decor - a must see once sort of place - mom and pop run, lavish extravagance in design and pretty good home cooked food classics. Highway 101 again. http://www.madonnainn.com/index.php

have you searched that topic here onthe California board? jus tneter it in the field at the top of hte page and you'll get scads of research. Then, if you have further questions, you can ask for specifics. You'll have to post on the Pacific Northwest board if you haven't already, for the remainder of the trip.
Really? LA to Seattle in 19 hours? impressed!
here's one link to start you off, more threads will appear underneath it towards the page bottom. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/752768
