Savor Sarasota Resaurant Week Thoughts

Any thoughts on the menus offered and/or the participating restaurants?

I was a little disappointed in SKOB's list... unless I'm missing something. OTOH, Libby looks to be a fun TIC menu!

Please lets keep it constructive instead of the nasty one-liners that have been invading the Sarasota topics on this board recently.

OH. Looks like from the lack of response all the customer base, (snowbirds) have gone North! As for the list, I think it is a poor representation of the restaurants involved if they cannot have their menus finalized and posted at this late date. For the ones that do, believe it or not, I think Caragiulos, Palm St. downtown has one of the more interesting and well put together offerings. I know it is traditional, but I look for "just good ingredients, prepared well" rather than kitchen acrobatics as performed by some of the area's restaurants.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt that the restaurants should have been prepared with their menus. I was disappointed since a couple of them were on our list of possibilities and wonder if the eventual menu would be an afterthought.

I did see the marsala on the menu @ Caragiulos and was forced to put them on our list ;-)

Any thoughts on Derek's offerings? We haven't been there and thought to try it but not sure.... Same w/Selva.

OH, We have never had a disappointing lunch or dinner at Derek's; their Oct -Nov. program of featuring various regional dishes, I believe it was on Thursdays, was great last year. Their menu for the "Savor Sarasota" looks like he spent some time and thought on it. Personally, I am not a big fan of non-local fish, just a hang-up of mine as I am seeking out more locally grown/raised/caught fish, pork, beef, poultry, etc. I catch most of the seafood that we eat. We will make Derek's on of our stops for this year's "Savor SRQ" probably get Hangar Steak, BTW the soups and Gumbos are outstanding at Derek's; Lunch is a real deal too.
Selva Grill, is an active place, big bar biz and very well made dishes; sometimes they get a little heavy handed with ther Citric, Lime, based sauces and salsas.
