cheese steak near Holiday Inn-Arch St. on a Sunday
I got several replies on my last post. And I thank you. Then I started thinking how I'm going to be in Philly for just a few hours. And I don't know when I'll get back there again. Why didn't I ask where to get a great cheese steak. Not interested in Pats or that other one across the street from Pat's. Thanks again!
I understand the urge to have a cheesesteak while in Philly, but I would encourage you to go to the Reading Terminal and have a roast pork sandwich at DiNic's. The next time you come to Philly and have more time, you can go out and find a proper cheesesteak.

Thanks Philly Ray. Appreciate your reply. I used to live in the Philly burbs and that is where I've had some of the best steaks! I've also had a couple of steaks at Tony Luke's. Not bad. I had an excellent one a couple of years ago at the airport near my gate. So, theres no proper steak sandwich at Reading Terminal Mkt.? Thanks again for your reply!

I agree with Philly Ray, and especially if you have had a real Philly steak before, skip it and get DiNic's, you'll thank us later. If you haven't been to Reading Terminal that itself is worth seeing anyway. About an eight block walk from the hotel, or quick subway ride along Market St.

I third what Ray and barry have said. The roast pork with sharp provolone and greens of some sort.. spinach or broccoli rabe is really a much more flavorful sandwich than a cheesesteak.
That said, there are now I think three stands in the Reading Terminal that produce steaks since Rick was sent packing. You can also look for some Gourmet Amish comfort food there as long as its not Sunday Monday or Tuesday..
If you walk the other way on Market both Campos Deli and Sonny's make a decent steak. 200 block of Market street.

Soho Pizza (between Campo's and Sonny's) has good cheesesteaks. I would rate them better than Campo's (I have found them to be too grisly), and about as good or sometimes better than Sonny's. At the moment, however, Sonny's is very good.
