As per the board practice, here's a brief on Chow recommendations while in Manhattan.

Persian at Persoplis (UES), French at Alloutette (UWS) and Indian at Nivrvana (midtown) all proved to be reasonably priced, flavorful and fun. Not too loud, seemed family friendly and all within easy walking distance of the subway or bus. Thanks for the good help.

Not a Chow recommendation but one of our favorite was Crispo on 14th street for delicious Italian. Loud, good service and a very nice selection. Our one splurge was Babbo in the West Village, one of Batali's joints. Nothing special and some dishes were disappointing.

Thanks for the help from all the hounds.

glad you liked persepolis. though i haven't been to their other place, it's my favorite of nyc iranian options (which isn't saying a whole lot).
