What Did I Miss?

Good morning-
I have been out of town on a work project since late November, returning to DC only for quick meetings and such. This has made me miss the new and greatest restaurants. I will be returning full time in early July. So what did I miss? What should I hit when I return? Hit me with suggestions of new places, changed places, and what is best right now. I prefer recs in the District.

  1. Apparently the biggest news around here lately is there are finally restaurants in DC that serve hamburgers! :)

I saw a few articles of absolute hysteria about shake shack. I like a good burger now and again just as much as the next fella. However, I will hit up Central or BGR. and I wouldn't call that new and exciting.

        Ray's first.

At any rate, also the temporary, "pop-up" restaurant from Andres focusing on American food.

Oh, and food trucks galore - most of which seem to leave most people wanting; either for service or food.

    2. Todd Gray's Watershed is getting a lot of buzz, and though I haven't been there yet, Senart's Oyster Bar on Barrack's Row looks really promising. Fabio Trabocchi opened a new spot in DC, Fiola, and Mike Isabella will soon be opening Graffiato, which looks like it may be worth waiting for.

I loved Watershed. If I was coming back into town after being gone for a few months that's where I would head.

Also, haven't been but I hear good things about Estadio. Was that open when you were here?

All these suggestions sound good. I am not sure if Estadio was open before I left but I have not been there yet. Any other ideas? Toki? Hill Country?

        2. The new Paul bakery opened at Archives and it is TREMENDOUS! Amazing French pastries, good bread and sandwiches. Yum yum yum.
The Standard - beer garden and barbeque place at 14th and S, NW. Recent post from woodleyparkhound, do a search. She recommended the brisket sandwich.
Almost next door is the new fancy taco place, same guys as Masa 14. Haven't tried it yet but it seems promising. (I personally quite like Pico Taco up 14th Street, and it's cheaper, so I'm not sure I'll ever make it there. The torta there is delish.)
Serendipity 3 is opening in Georgetown this week. Desserts. I'm excited about it.
New cupcake place: Sprinkles on M Street in Georgetown. I tried it and think it's pretty darn good. Certainly better than Georgetown Cupcake.
Bayou Bakery in Courthouse - apparently they're selling snowballs and it's on my list to return!
          Mala Tang in Ballston.
Ba Bey on Capitol Hill, is that that recent? Too expensive for me, but could be good.
Pound Coffee opened on the Hill as well. Nice spot.
Ooh, and they opened a second Peregrine coffee shop on 14th Street, though apparently it has minimal to no seating. It opened yesterday I think. They serve pastries from Buzz, which I'm excited about.

A couple new places coming up on H Street, Toki, a schawarma place, Queen Vic (British gastropub)....

          Georgetown Cupcake
1209 Potomac St NW, Washington, DC

          Pound Coffee
200 Florida Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002

          Masa 14
          1825 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20009
