Dinner in Hendersonville or close by...

My husband and I are bringing our daughter to camp in Tuxedo in early June. The night before, we'll be staying in Hendersonville. Can anybody suggest a place for a good dinner? We like most anything, though Asian is not a favorite of my daughter's. There really isn't any sort of budget, I would just like a good meal and a good glass of wine or cocktail.

Thanks!

Hmmm...am sorry it's Sunday because precious little is open on Sundays, at least for dinner.

Hannah Flannigan's is a pub and has decent pub fare, but is insanely busy on Sundays and noisy. Also, not a good wine or cocktails place. Much better for beer. Umi is very good Japanese, but you mentioned that your daughter isn't a fan. There is also Lime Leaf which is also decent, but is Thai, which is the Asian theme again (the link says Spartanburg, but it's the same people, just a different location).

I hate to say it, but Square 1 might be your best bet. I would not normally recommend it just because so many other places are better, but none of them are open! It has certainly never been horrible, just "ok" in the past, although I will say it has been much better in recent visits and they do have a nice outdoor area to eat if the weather cooperates. And their menu should have plenty to appeal to everyone.

Other options are Mezzaluna (wood fired pizza, but does not hold a candle to West First or Flat Rock Bakery - neither open on Sundays). There is also Black Rose Pub (same owners as Mezzaluna and next door). Another pub, again "ok", much quieter than Hannah's though.

There is also Mona Lisa (Italian) which claims to be open for dinner on Sundays. I have not eaten there in years, but it was decent before although kind of a strange atmosphere and is in a bit of an odd location.

I'm sorry there isn't much to get excited about on Sundays. It is frustrating for us too! But, my picks would probably be Square 1, Hannah's or Umi depending on what you're in the mood for. Of those, Umi is the best quality, but unfortunately, it's the Japanese one. I will say it has plenty of non-sushi options your daughter might like. ?

And I agree with Danna, if you're willing to go to Asheville, there are a lot more options that are better and it's certainly a more interesting place to walk around! And has the French Broad Chocolate Lounge....need I say more??

I would drive 10-15 minutes into South Asheville and eat at the south Tupelo Honey. Awesome local food, beer and good cocktails.

what night are you looking for dinner? I ask only because if it's a Sunday night, many places are closed.

It is, in fact, a Sunday night. Thanks for thinking of that. I found a place on the camp's website that they recommended that was open on Sundays. Square 1 Bistro? Any good?

Bummer. West First is by far the best restaurant in town and it appears to be closed on Sunday. Square 1 is just OK, same with Never Blue next door...although they do have nice outdoor dining and creative sangrias.

I guess just OK is better than horrible? I shouldn't be picky on a Sunday probably.

Yes. Better than horrible ;-) I just checked, though, Never Blue is also closed on Sunday.

There is also Highland Lake Inn. oops, also closed after their Sunday Brunch Buffet that ends at 2 pm.

The best experience around is http://www.littlerainbowrow.com/Flat_Rock_Village_Bakery/index.html
if you can work in a meal during their hours.

You could drive 20 minutes north to Zambra in Asheville for good food, Spanish wines, and a fun atmosphere your daughter might like. http://www.zambratapas.com/restaurant...

              good luck!
