Caplanskys Delivery and Food Truck

jamesm May 24, 2011 05:58 AM

Looks like Zane is making some changes. Hopefully this food truck will inspire others and set a precedent for other enterprising restauranteurs. There's also a good article in The newly luanched The Grid on this.

Called them up yesterday - I live right at Sudbury street - ONE street below their borders of Queen and Ossington and they wouldnt deliver.

    Thanks but no thanks.

They have to set-up a delivery zone and stick to it. If they made an exception for you'd they'd have to do it for the next person who called who was outside of their zone.

I dont think its unreasonable to go one street over from your zone, a few blocks sure. They are the first restaurant I have encountered that has refused delivery when the border was that close.

In a car maybe, but that is 2 extra blocks to ride just for you. Do this 5 times a day and time is lost, time equals money and blah blah blah. It wasn't unreasonable for you to request, but you shouldn't be surprised they shut you down. Why not ask for delivery to queen and oz, go for a walk and meet them there? No biggie.

This sounds like it could be a Seinfeld episode :)

We actually do this in NYC w/o the restaurant freaking out and putting us on a black list. And I was thinking the same thing, call for delivery and walk over a block to meet them. Or go to Caplanskys and save the $5 delivery charge.

Is the truck gonna have regular locations or a twitter tracker?

Most over-rated restaurant in the city. I've never understood why the critics rave about it. I also don't understand why Zane promotes his terrible service "new menu, same crappy service"

I can't wait to check it out (haven't been to the College locale either).

My standard for Deli is New York, so I'm definitely curious.

It WAS a Seinfeld episode! Elaine would sneak into a building across the street from her apartment and used a custodian's closet as a fake address to get delivery from a place whose delivery boundary only included one side of her street! Funny!

Hilarious -- exciting news that could open up possibilities of various food trucks and delivery options around the city and there's complaints about not receiving deliveries to your front door because it is outside of the designated delivery zone and the tired anti-caplansky vitriol.

This is why we can't have nice things.
