Nashua to Bangor in 2 weeks

We are driving to Bangor in 2 weeks with the toddlers. I think we'll stop in Portland on the way up and hit the market...any favorite places?

Any great places to stop on the way up? Ice cream stands, farmers markets, etc?

As for Bangor, there is already a decent thread on here for that. Looking more for during the drive.

And is Red's in Wiscasset worth the bit of a detour off the highway?

  1. If you've got toddlers, Toots ice Cream would be a fun stop. It's about a 10 minute detour off 295 north, the Yarmouth exit. Working farm so the kids can see the animals, and the ice cream is good, too.

Red's is way more than "a bit" of a detour and not worth it in my opinion. Especially with a sometimes 45 min wait in line and toddlers in tow.

Thanks!! Toots sounds like a great stop. And good to know about Red's...we'll save that for some other time.

    2. Yes, jack is right - Wiscasset is a pretty significant detour. Is this a trip where you are trying to get to Bangor as quickly as possible...only stopping on the drive for lunch/snack? If you are in the mood to be more leisurely, Rt 1 is a much better drive (scenery and, er, foodery) than I-95.

With the 2 kids, we just want to get there, but take a break half-way so they can run around.
