Healthway Natural Foods in Fairfax? Other good specialty stores in the area?

  • 1

I'm moving back for Fairfax City for my MA at GMU in the fall and since I graduated from there a year ago I've changed my diet quiet a bit to help with my ADHD. Mostly cutting way down on grain (don't keep it in the house but I'll eat it when out maybe once a week), upping my animal fat intake and moderate protein. It's helped tremendously and I'd like to know whats around me before I move back so I can insure a smooth transition at the beginning of school.
I know there's a Whole Foods near Fair Oaks and there are several Trader Joe's around. There is also a Wegmen's, which is delightful but the problem with all of that is that I don't have a car. Though I have sweet housemates who will drive me places occasionally, I'd like to be self sufficient. Google told me that Healthway Natural Foods is a 20 minute walk from where I'll be living but their site had no information about their food products.

Does Healthway carry dairy? Specially full fat greek yogurt (brands would be helpful here, I've tried them all and am kind of picky). Does it carry any kind of meat (details helpful here too: pasture, organic, etc. etc). Butter? Any interesting packaged foods?

I'm also within walking distance of Super H Mart, which excites me because I just like prowling through new foods even if I have no intention of buying. Do you guys know of any other specialty food places where someone on foot/with a bus pass can get to from near GMU?

  1. The store is pretty small, and it carries more vitamins and supplements than food. That said, I think they do have some things like yogurt, etc. They don't sell produce or fresh meat. I don't know if you found this out, but there's a Trader Joe's in the same center. There's also a large Shopper's another 5 minute walk from there.
