Empanada Boulengerie

Just drove down St Jean and I saw this place. Couldn't tell if it was open yet or not. Anyone know anything about this place?

A buddy of mine stumbled across this place by chance and, on a whim, went in and checked them out. He was raving about it. He had one of their Columbian Beef empanadas and told me it was delicious and the prices were pretty reasonable. Even though they are a bakery, they don't sell bread and have limited sweet pasteries. Mostly savory stuff. He said they even have large pretzels, baked on the premises, and even have a stuffed variety. He noticed pretzels stuffed with jalapenios.

Maybe I give them another try but I don't think they would have changed up their recipe since last year. IIRC the owners background is not from a traditional empanada cuisine background. That's not to say of course that one needs to be from South America to make a good empanada but it would be a start.

The empanadas from this place are alright but I would not go out of my way for them. I live in DDO and prefer to go to Empenada and Cie in Laval, much better in my opinion. I agree with you ios94, the dough is the let down here.

I just noticed it on the weekend too but it's "opening soon". I know nothing about it.

Sampled a Cuban and Steak & Potato this weekend, I was quite disappointed. The dough was too bready and had a sweetness to it and the filling was minimal and didn't have much taste.
