casual restaurants along I-86 through NY state

In June, we'll be making an out and back trip from Cleveland, OH to Kingston, RI via I-86 through NY state, then dropping down to I-84 & I-95 to go through CT. Are there any notable casual restaurants not too far from the highway along that stretch? Menu can be pretty much anything (ice cream, coffee/beverages, pizza, local cuisine, diner, etc). We're just looking for unique stops along the way (and kid-friendly, but doesn't necessarily need to have a kids' menu specifically). What's the fun of traveling if fast food chains are your only option?

Update! Our driving plan has changed a bit. We will be on I-86 AND I-88 through NY up to Schenectady, then south onto I-90 through Albany and into MA. Any recs for the I-88/I-90 portion of our trip?

More Perreca in Schenectady's Little Italy. A thread on Schenectady's Little Italy:

Wolf Road in Albany is all chains. Central Ave. (Albany) has a few lunch possibilities.

This isn't unique, but off of I-86/Route 17 is the Blue Dolphin Diner in Apalachin (near Binghamton). I've only been there once, but everything I tasted was delicious, from my Greek salad and gyro to my boyfriend's bacon cheeseburger. Service was friendly and prices were cheap.

Off of I-84 in Beacon, NY (Route 9D exit) I highly recommend Poppy's Burgers and Fries. Local grass-fed beef makes for the most delicious burgers I've ever had. Small menu, basically just burgers, sloppy joes, veggie burgers, fries, and sweet potato chips, but everything is yummy. They have a pinball machine for the kids.

Ooh, good call on Poppy's. Hit up the Beacon Creamery too, while you're at it, for Jane's ice cream!!!
