Sienna Grill at the Cabo Lounge

  • 0

Continuing my Groupon/Westchester Magazine Deals tour with my wife (last one was Rainwater Grill, which we really liked), the next stop was the Sienna Grill, formerly at the SOMA location on Mamaroneck Avenue.

The restaurant bills itself as Latin/Italian, so I was curious to see what this meant.

We went on a Tuesday night, arriving at 9 pm. The front of the place is the long Cabo Lounge, and you may think you've not entered the right place. My wife and I reluctantly went over to somebody and said, "Is the Sienna Grill here?" Turns out it was set up in a room beyond the lounge, normally used for parties, it seemed.

Sienna has about 10 tables. Only about two others were occupied when we arrived. It's a peculiar setting because it is in this private party room, but they do their best to make it welcoming. It is not the most atmospheric compared to rooms that are 100% devoted to being a restaurant. However, we enjoyed the service quite a bit, actually.

First let me tell you that the biggest surprise was the bread -- definitely above average and quite tasty, served with a rather unusual bowl for olive oil.

My wife had the bronzino fish, and I had the marinated skirt steak. I finished my entire dish and thought it was quite good. My wife liked her a lot too.

I don't know why their web site bills them as "Italian/American" because this is not a traditional Italian place, but as I said, Latin too. As a matter of fact, it seemed more on the Latin side, if anything. For example, they also served arroz con pollo, as well as seafood paella.

The prices were reasonable, and I felt I got a pretty good meal for what I paid.

I don't know if this restaurant draws many customers, as this was kind of late on a Tuesday and not many people were around. Anybody else been here?

While Rainwater Grill was quite nice, with a laid back groove, really neat decor and live music, Sienna Grill was quite good too, even if the atmosphere and location were a little, well, unusual.
