Healthy/vegan/veg options, Yonge/St Clair?

Dear Torontonians:

I'll be spending the summer in TO, living Yonge/St Clair.

Didn't see much in the way of vegan/raw/vegetarian options on my last visit.

Would very much appreciate recommendations.

  1. I work in the area.
Don't know how healthful it is as they refuse to post NI ( bad sign?), but the Thai Express on St. Clair (east of yonge) does all their curries and stirfrys as veggie options (good veggies) or with Tofu. harvey's is new to the area and does a veggie burger as well. (same style)
Retro Burger (south of st. clair, west side of yonge) has a veggie burger which is actually pretty good, but it depends on what you like for a veggie burgers (this is meat-style, done on the same grill as the meat I think judging from the taste).
Andy does veggie dogs on a corner east of Yonge. I can't say they are great but sometimes its fun to go to the hot dog cart in the summer.
The Salad Selection at Druxy's (basement of St. Clair center) is a more affordable, reasonably sized and fresher option than the stuff at Freshii (south of Heath, west side of Yonge), although both are possibilities for veggie lovers.
PIzzaiolo has veg pizza options (south side of St. Clair, west of yonge)

not a lot of superhealthy choices in this area....I end up bringing my lunch most days, but these are some options i've found.

Not sure how far you are willing to go for good food.

Closeby there is freshii where you can make your own salads, etc.
I've never been but Delica Kitchen is around that area. It should be veg-friendly.

You could try Tabuli near Yonge/Davisville for some casual veg-friendly Middle Eastern fare.

I love Rawlicious, which is in Yorkville. Great raw cuisine - love their creamsicle smoothie, ginger-date dressing, rawitch and their cheesecakes.

      Camros Eatery is near Yonge/Bloor.

My other healthy option I like is The Beet in the Junction, which is definitely not closeby! It is nice because it caters to omnis, vege and gluten-free customers, alike! :)

I really like Rawlicious, too, especially the ginger-date dressing!

    2. Some good recs so far. I have become a recent fan of Sprout on the south side of St. Clair, just west of Yonge. It's a little Vietnamese spot and they make some tasty dishes - I really like their "OMG soup" - broth (you'd need to check if it's veggie) with noodles, sprouts, veggies and optional toppings, including tofu. Quite tasty. They also have raw salad rolls, vermicelli dishes, etc. Heading south 2 subway stops (or a 10-12 minute walk), Black Camel makes a very tasty veggie sandwich - roasted eggplant, zucchini, peppers and tomatoes plus fresh arugula on a soft chewy bun with your choice of sauces (I like charamoula mayo) and additional toppings. There is Live on Dupont, near Bathurst - a longer walk or drive but still midtownish - it's a (not surprisingly) raw food restaurant with tasty dishes. Petite Thuet has lovely quiches and incredible breads, which would pair nicely with some cheese and fresh fruit/veggies from the shops across the street for a summer picnic. I like Tabule a lot - lots of yummy veggie options there (fried tomatoes, halumi salad, hummus, lentil soup, fried cauliflower, etc.). Someone also posted recently about Fabrica (Fabricant?), north of Davisville, a new pizza and pasta spot. If you're focused on vegan or raw, that's a bit more of a challenge but for vegetarian, you can pretty much go anywhere in the 'hood and find something. Enjoy!

      1. There are a couple of good options at Yonge/Eglinton:

-Kale is a small vegan restaurant on Yonge where you pay by weight. They have a variety of cold and hot foods which are so delicious and healthy! My favourites are the squash stuffed perogies an the grilled tofu steaks with the tofu sauce.
-Sandwich Box on Eglinton is basically like a gourmet Subway where you can make sandwiches or salads using your choice of ingredients. There are at least 2 varieties of tofu that you can put on the salads as far as I can remember. They also offer a vegan soup everyday.

        1. Do not miss Le Commensal on Bay near Yonge, a vegetarian buffet. So so good. See their website for details.

          1. Welcome to the neighbourhood! (I'm on yonge south of St. Clair)

            You do have some options.

Freshii - On Yonge in the same building as Bruno's - Basically create your own salad deal.

There is 2 or 3 sushi places, that will have veg tempura bento's along with the requisite vegetarian rolls.

Chef of India has a daily lunch buffet and has a take out option for it.

Delica kitchen (south of st. clair, west side) has daily veg sandwich specials as does Fixx cafe a little further down in the same line.

If all else fails, you have Bruno's, the loblaws (st. clair centre) + the 24 hr sobey's to fall back on.
Also, the smoothie bar at the Goodlife has fresh veggie and fruit juices, though I have never tried (usually see it as I am running to catch the train to work)
