  1. Where have you had them in the Twin Cities?

Maria's serves Huevos Pericos - a Columbia version perhaps?

    1. I eat them at Hell's Kitchen, but I am sure they are not authentic. Just delicious.

      1. The best Huevos I've had is at San Pedro Cafe in Hudson, WI. While Hudson is technically not the Twin Cities, it's worth the 25-30 min drive. Their stock huevos comes w/o meat but if you tell the waiter you want the "super huevos" (not on the menu), they will pile on their delicious chorizo which puts it over the top. SPC serves breakfast on the weekends till 11am (Sat) and Sunday till 1pm.

        1. Moose & Sadies. The best.

I've never had them, but some of our friends rave about Moose & Sadie's Huevos Rancheros as well so I'd give them a +1.

          2. I second the Hell's Kitchen rec. I have no idea if they're "authentic," either, but I know they're delicious and one of the best things at HK.

            1. I will let you know one place for sure NOT to get them. This might be a surprise, as they make other wonderful egg based dishes. Al's Breakfast.

I usually go for the bacon waffle or maybe the Spike or Leonard eggs special. The last time I was in there I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. This was it- scrambled eggs sauteed onions, bell peppers and pickled banana peppers (plus toast). That's all. Very vinegary and just yuk- no cheese, no sour cream, no salsa, no beans, no tortilla, none of the possible yummy accompaniments. So- if you are going to Al's, my advice is to get a known goodie. No Huevos Rancheros.

                  1. I really like the Huevos Rancheros at Seward Cafe, especially with the black beans (which are, by the way, the best black beans in town these days).

                    1. LA CHAYA! House made toritillas...yum.

                      1. I have yet to find a place that makes them properly, but they're easy to do at home and take about 5 minutes to whip together. From bottom to top: Corn tortilla, refried beans heated with a bit of bacon fat, a fried egg, cheese. Warm that in an oven (or the microwave) just until the cheese melts, then top with hot salsa.

Everywhere I've tried here puts enchilada sauce or pico or some other sauce-that-they-have-on-standby-for-other-dishes on there instead of just using regular salsa. Not sure what they're afraid of there.

                        1. Fat Nat's is by far the best I have ever had.

                          1. Joseph's Grill on Plato Boulevard in St. Paul. Love their salsa. They also have a great dish of Chorizo and Eggs. Another favorite there is the Lamb and Eggs, served with Lebonese flatbread, and the Greek Florentine Omelette that has lamb sausage and is served with tzatziki sauce.
