10th wedding anniversary, need to score a table in a week! *Please help*!
No, I did not wait until the last minute- I have had reservations at a place for months- a place which- when my wife found out about it- she nixed.
Anyway, any recommendations for a cute, not-super-expensive place with good food and a pretty room where we could actually score a table on what is admittedly very short notice? I know you're not maitre'Ds, so you can't guarantee anything- but at this point I'll take any and all suggestions and then do the legwork.....
Our budget is around $300 total (including everything), so we're obviously not looking for Le Bernardin....
Just someplace sweet, with good food and nice service. We're easy as far as cuisine goes- and neighborhood as well.
You can do the three course prix fixe at Corton or SHO Shaun Hergatt for less than $300 if you only have one or two drinks. Here are some other ideas for a last minute reservation, listed in descending order of formality:
Tocqueville
Dovetail
Oceana
Telepan
Aldea
Ouest
La Sillhouette
Perilla
Nuela
Millesime (can be noisy though if the band is playing)
Raoul's
Jean Claude
Shorty's .32
Perhaps Junoon, Annisa, and Marc Forgione, though I haven't been to these places yet.

Which place did she nix and why? That would help to know...

Applewood in Brooklyn.
The reason: she wanted to try someplace new.
We live in Brooklyn but are willing to travel.

For $300 you can do pretty well, all but the most expensive places. A quick opentable search shows a number of openings, my top choices of the ones that show up would be, in no particular order:
Cafe Boulud
Corton (might come close to your budget, sneak slightly over, depending how much you drink / what wine you order)
Hearth
SHO Shaun Hergatt
Soto
Tocqueville
Ai Fiori
Soto
Dovetail
Falai
Colicchio & Sons
Marea
Savoy
A number of restaurants hold tables from OT as well, so it wouldn't hurt calling a few others that might not be listed there, or places that might get last-minute cancellations: You could give WD-50, Babbo, Gramercy Tavern a call... Kanoyama or Kya Ya for Japanese... nice thing about doing it last minute is you can decide what kind of food you're in the mood for..

Il Buco fits the bill for a place that is special enough for an anniversary and won't break the bank. In a former antique store on Bond Street in Noho, it is rustic Italian with excellent food and charming service. Romantic without trying too hard.
