Penang's Delicious Cafe

Delicious Cafe at Straits Quay in Tanjung Tokong serves the best desserts in Penang. Today we tried the chocolate cake with molten chocolate sauce poured all over it and served with vanilla ice-cream; a steamed banana pudding with butterscotch sauce and more vanilla ice-cream, and finally a hot chocolate with marshmallows. Sugar overload :)

  1. Hey, penang_rojak, I loved Delicious' Nyonya curry laksa: it's pretty unique, but very tasty: yellow turmeric-tinged thick coconut broth, sourish flavors from kalamansi, and with the marvellous addition of julienned cucumber and pink torch-ginger for some crisp texture, which totally sets it apart from the versions by nearby rivals (in Bangsar) like Plan B (yuks!!!), Cha-wan (bland & NOT fresh), Madam Kwan (waaaay too spicy!!) and Alexis (probably the second best here). One is given a choice of bee hoon (thin rice noodles) or koay teow (flat rice noodles) - I personally prefer koay teow, so am one happy camper :-)

    A bowl of Nyonya laksa comes with generous amounts of finely-shredded chicken breast meat, 3 HUGE & very fresh prawns, and tofu puffs. Pure nirvana in one bowl :-D

    Dessert: I tried the cheesecake topped with macadamias & butterscotch sauce. Now I know why the restaurant called itself Delicious! ;-)

      Had a great time catching up with penang_rojak again today. Desserts at Delicious' Penang outlet post-lunch was great. The Penang outlet has something none of Delicious' KL outlets have: an absolutely beautiful view - azure blue seas & clear blue skies outside the windows. I want to sit there forever!

      Our dessert list::

      - Banana pudding a la mode, with butterscotch sauce. The best dessert in the house, whether in Penang or KL!

      - Cheesecake with caramelised-macadamias. Prefer the KL version - Penang's lack the macadamia content & hardened caramel was too thick!

      - Strawberry shortcake - not recommended. Bland & tasteless!

      - Brownie a la mode - very dense & chocolatey. Delish!!

      - Coconut cake - it's big, it's beautiful, it's moist - totally bowled me over! Don't miss!!

      - Apple pie a la mode: best I'd tasted in a long while ;-)
